Silicon Bronze lacks the ductility of standard RBCuZn-C (Low Fuming Bronze) so is not the best choice for cast iron work or structural brazing. Silicon bronze is best suited for building up worn work surfaces, and sheet metal work where paint adhesion is critical. Phosphor bronze is best suited for copper work, or production work on ...
Oct 13, 2019 Both metal alloys are types of brazing rod, which is to say welding material. Bronze is a more yellow hue, whereas silicon bronze is more russet. Silicon bronze is a bit springier, which enables making the stars a little longer, a more slender proportioning.
Apr 04, 2019 The silicon bronze rod's lower melting point makes it ideal for joining together thin sheet metal, galvanized steel, and nuts and bolts, too. It's nice for sheet metal work because the lower melting temps means less heat, which equals less warping when compared to TIG with, say, an ER70 rod.

It's a lower temp process than welding so if you find yourself needing a heat sink to prevent blowing holes that means you're brazing the panel much too hot. 4. level 1. King_Diamond_666. 5y. But I've also TIG brazed with Aluminum Bronze, and to be honest, I'm not sure why Manganese Bronze (OA Brazing Rods) wouldn't work. The latter has a ton (~ 30%) of zinc. As far as TIG welding with thin MIG wire: I double or triple it and twirl it like a Swizzler.

welding process and brazing gets obscured with the thought of oxy-acetylene torches, flux powder etc. In practice, the heat source is the TIG arc but run on a low current so as not to melt the material with a suitable filler rod fed into the arc. This filler rod is quite different from conventional oxy-acetylene 'silicon bronze' brazing rod.
What Is Bronze? Bronze is a copper-based alloy that typically consists of approximately 88% copper and 12% tin. Trace amounts of other metals, such as aluminum, manganese, phosphorus, and silicon, may also be present in the alloy. Properties of Bronze. Many of the properties of bronze overlap with those of copper and brass. For example:
