It will take alot of shooting to wear one out and the average person just wont wear one out. If you are shooting thousands of rounds a month in competition or something, you might consider using steel.

Nov 28, 2009 Al frames are definately easier to carry, but will not hold up to as many firings as steel. Al alloy of today is far tougher than it was 30 years ago. install a Sprinco recoil reducer and you likely will never wear out an alloy framed 1911.

Talked to Keith at DW about it and he informed me that this is normal wear brought on by the contact of the guide rod with this part of the frame. The frame is aluminum while the guide rod is steel, hence the aluminum frame receives the impact tell.

For our 308 Lowers we have two options, a billet aluminum 7075 option and a Cerro 7075 forging like our AR-15 platform. The 10/22 platform is made from 6061 aluminum made in the USA. The TM Recon and TM Government 1911 frames are made from investment castings.
