Jun 07, 2012 A thinwall aluminum intake is a hard project for someone not already pretty good at welding aluminum. Heavier wall would make welding easier, but you could end up with an aluminum intake that weighs as much as a steel one.
Nov 18, 2007 Stainless steel will absorb, and hold way more heat than aluminum keeping the intake charge air warmer than necessary. IMHO it is totally a worthless thing to do!:fart: . I couldnt't imagine trading my aluminum intake for a stainless. I mean whats the bbenifits except the fact that you can boast that it's stainless.
User Interaction Count: 15One of the most distinguishing factors between different air intake systems is the material used to construct the intake tube. The two common materials used to craft these tubes are composite plastic and metal (aluminum or steel).

Dec 22, 2000 Aluminum intakes are also better because of heat transfer. A cold engine with alum. intake will not take as long for the intake to warm and allow for correct fuel atomization, and it will help the engine dissapate heat at operating temp. For this reason you will note later model engines come with alum. intakes, not high rise ones just alum.

作者: Young Chevy TruckSep 08, 2010 Some weight off the front end, and some effect on cooling (for the better) with the aluminum intake; but not much, if any, difference in performance. My intake's an old Edelbrock c-3bx, and it'll be painted engine color (on the 56 Delivery). The 57 Delivery has a cast iron 4-Jet Rochester. As they say, "old school". Butch/56sedandelivery.
Aluminum pipes are a bit lighter and brighter. All of our pipes come with a beautiful, mirror polished finish. Stainless steel pipes have a deep, darker surface. Durability and Corrosion Resistance. Aluminum has relatively good corrosion resistance, and is commonly used in engine parts, aircraft, and other hostile environments.
Jul 21, 2018 Jul 4, 2017. #2. There has been a lot of discussion about the aluminum push rod. BS uses aluminum push rods on the rocker arm which is operating the valve involved in compression release. This is NOT for cost reasons. The Intake valve on Intek and the Exhaust valve on V
May 08, 2014 Aluminum vs. Cast Iron. Aluminum heads are lighter than cast iron, saving maybe 25 to 30 lbs. per head depending on the application. In a 3500 to 4500 lb. street car, that's not a lot of weight savings, but in a 2,500 lbs. race car it is. Even so, lighter is usually considered better for performance.
Apr 25, 2010 Intake companies have always been making intakes in aluminum, and changing over to silicone is a totally different process. Plus mounting sensors and hoses to silicone is a hassle in terms of production. Silicone isn't as rigid as aluminum obviously, so mounting it is going to be more difficult as well. Save. Share.
Nov 28, 2010 There are two basic types of intake manifolds. Open plenum straight runner for more upper and mid range rpm's, and timed runner for low to mid-range rpm. I've always ran the Early Z-28 aluminum timed runner with a Holley 780 vacuum secondary. I had a 348 in a Vega that would run to 7500, and a Camaro with a 302 that would do the same.
Aug 15, 2019 Hey all, this may be a noob question but do metal turbo intake pipes give you better performance? I ask because metal can heat up very fast so the air going in would be hotter. What metal material is the best for intake? Aluminium or steel? Also

Dec 15, 2004 Plastic. It will stay cooler longer. I have a mixed breed. I used the JLT RAI kit, and the KN FIPK together. I have heard the blower whine with both units by themselves, but for some reason this set up seems louder (good thing), and maybe due to resonance in the JLT tubing it has a deeper groan to it as well.

Sep 15, 2017 Aluminum vs. Steel vs. Plastic Explained by John Concialdi, AEM Chief Engineer 5/28/2003 Aluminum vs. Steel vs. Plastic The issue of heat absorption with an intake system has a degree of validity, however we have found that too much emphasis is placed on material selection, instead of the real issue of tuning the system.

Feb 13, 2010 Others are made from stainless steel, and still others are made from ceramic which does not have the durability of steel and is more likely to crack. The exhaust manifold process conducts away hot gases produced by the exploding fuel-air mixture while the intake manifold introduces a cooler, unburned air-fuel mixture.

May 18, 2020 A: Air intake kits are a popular performance upgrade. They are affordable, easy to install, and provide noticeable gains over a stock intake. However, there are many choices. One major difference can be the shape and material of the tubes. Metal Tubes. Many intake kits are available with aluminum or steel tubes. They are also available in ...

May 27, 2016 Alum sbc heads weigh in at around half of iron heads. Stock iron sbc heads are in the 45-49 lbs range each. Alum sbc heads 21-25 lbs range each. Iron sbc intake weighs in at 40-44 lbs. Alum. sbc intake in the 13-17 lbs range. Long tube headers, I would guess to be 3-5 lbs lighter for the set than exhaust manifolds.

Jul 30, 2014 Intake manifolds for inline engines are often mounted on the side of the engine block, as seen in this diagram. Up until the 1990s, most intake manifold assemblies were made from cast iron when lower cost was a predominant factor, or from aluminum when lighter weight was judged more important for performance reasons.
The fitting is also used on aluminum W car intakes. 4 speeds used this arrangement because the air cleaner was dual snorkle, and so the PCV went from the intake to carb. A 90° rubber nipple goes between the fitting on the intake and the PCV valve.

Jul 18, 2008 Basically if the aluminum intake gets a lot hotter then the stock ls6 intake, then I guess there could be a problem. With the stock LS6 intake I've ran my car all day long and I can ...

May 01, 2017 The 1970 6-barrel aluminum intake manifold is also a dual-plane design and uses three Holley 2-barrel carbs. With 318-style small intake port heads, you are still better off to use the 340/360 large runner intakes even though the ports do not line up. Use 340/360 intake gaskets in this situation.
